Torquay College Final

My design was based on the layout of the Torquay land. The different contours of the land has different concentrated functions. Like the beach=surfing, the coast=housing, inland=public buildings. I incorporated this into my design of different levels and environments for different learning situations.

Also, I believe that education is not limited to just a room where only the people in the room learn something so I provided free spaces with hardly any walls and adjustable walls. This way even if a person is walking pass by a class they can see what is going on inside and learn something too.

I have provided a variety of different learning environments for the comfort of not only the student but also the teachers. I believe that even teachers have to feel comfortable when they are teaching and incorporate the learning spaces to their advantage. Like the outdoor auditorium for a history lesson acting performance and the large science foyer as a large scale experimentation area. I do not believe in defining a space to a single usage but for the users to decide for themselves and make the most of it.

A variety of sustainable features are used throughout all the buildings because since the school is focused on sustainability I would like the students to have a few examples of these features that they can see as they walk around the school.

As an end result, this site I designed with lots of open spaces and building shapes looked like a small town or a community in a school. I hoped the people of this school would come closer together with this type of environment.
